Abdullah bin Saleh bin Jum’ah Al-Dosari is the former president and CEO of Saudi Aramco and the president of Halliburton International.

 

Abdallah Jum’ah Al-Dosari’s Biography

Birth: Al-Khobar city in the Eastern Province.

Date of birth: 1941.

Family life: Married with four children

Education: Bachelor’s degree in political science from the American University in Cairo and Beirut.

High achievement:

He finished the management development programme at Harvard University in Cambridge, Massachusetts, by continuing his education there.

Honorary doctorate from Hankuk University in Seoul, South Korea, 2007.

Professional Biography

In 1968, Abdallah Jum’ah Al-Dosari started his career as a broadcaster for the Aramco-affiliated “Aramco” TV channel.

Subsequently, he worked as a translation specialist in the Government Relations Department. Following that, he was a news analyst for the newspaper Asharq Al-Awsat. In 1969, he became a senior analyst in the same department. He was named director of the public relations department in 1975.

In 1981, he was promoted to vice president of electrical power networks. After that, he became the Senior Vice President of the business, and he eventually rose to the position of Executive Vice President of International Business.

Al-Dosari served as President and Chief Executive Officer of Saudi Aramco between 1995 and 2009.

Since taking up this role, he has been able to turn Saudi Aramco into an integrated worldwide business and has led it to become the world’s largest energy exporter by making smart and decisive decisions.

He has also carried out a significant number of incremental expansions in the company’s refining, processing, marketing, and gas business.

Royal Memberships

In January 2005, the World Economic Forum appointed him a Leader of the Energy Community. His appointment as Vice-Chairman of the International Advisory Council of King Fahd University of Petroleum and Minerals, Dhahran, occurred in March 2007.

In December of the same year, “King Abdullah bin Abdulaziz,” the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques, named him to the King Abdulaziz City for Science and Technology Supreme Committee.

This committee’s duties include overseeing the city, promoting applied science, and assisting the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia’s social and economic development.

Late in 2008, Professor Abdullah Al-Dosari announced his retirement from the Kingdom following 40 years of service, 14 of which he had as Aramco President.

  • Member of the Advisory Committee of the School of Mechanical Engineering at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, between 2009 and 2017.
  • Chairman of the Board of Directors of the “Saudi Investment Bank” in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, since February 2013.
  • Co-chair of the “Saudi American Council”, since 2015.
  • Vice Chairman of the Board of Directors of “Zamil Industrial Investment Company”, since May 2019.
  • Member of the Board of Directors of the Saudi Arabian Mining Company “Ma’aden”, as of January 9, 2020, the “Hasana” Investment Company, the “General Corporation of Saudi Arabian Airlines”, and a member of the “Eastern Region Council”.

Awards and Honours

In 2003, Fortune magazine named him one of the world’s most influential business personalities.

He received the 2005 Leadership Personality of the Year Award, according to the specialised “Energy Intelligence International.”

He received recognition as one of the “100 Most Powerful Saudi Personalities” by “Arabian Business” magazine in 2005.

Magnificent Leader

Abdallah Jum’ah Al-Dosari is a well-known figurehead in the oil and gas industry. Halliburton and Saudi Aramco, two of the biggest businesses in this industry, both employed him in executive capacities.

His avant-garde input and expertise helped the businesses he oversaw develop significantly and expand with the goal of success and sustainability.
