The Royal Commission for Riyadh City's Board of Directors has launched the “Creative District” initiative, marking a significant milestone.

Recently, the Board of Directors of the Royal Commission for Riyadh City has announced the start of the “Creative District” project. This innovative action represents the commission’s aspirational future vision.

What are the objectives of the Creative District?

Creative District’s Objectives

As a fresh beginning point for the Kingdom’s period of invention and creativity, the King Abdullah Financial District in Riyadh, or “KAFD,” was selected as the location for the Creative District. Including office space exceeding 30,000 square meters, this project aims to establish creative communities that boost productivity and uphold the value of creativity in society, as well as experimental platforms and inspiring environments that inspire thinking and creativity. The Royal Commission for Riyadh City's Board of Directors has launched the “Creative District” initiative, marking a significant milestone.

By expanding chances for collaboration between local and international talent and businesses, the Creative District hopes to become a premier hub in the sectors of creativity and media, as it will significantly enhance the Kingdom’s creative economy.

In addition to playing a crucial role in localising the local content industry by drawing businesses and developing local talent and creative competencies, its mission is to document the significance of the creative sector in accomplishing national goals, including raising its share of the GDP.

The district offers the best conditions for the success and excellence of new businesses by giving them the resources they need to grow and prosper. It also focuses on making a significant and lasting impact on Riyadh and the Kingdom’s future. By creating an innovative workplace that draws in Saudi talent, promotes innovation, and embraces groundbreaking projects that improve people’s quality of life and advance sustainable development, the district helps to realise the objectives of Saudi Vision 2030.

Selecting KAFD as the district’s location

The Excellency of the CEO of the Royal Commission for Riyadh City, Eng. Ibrahim Al-Sultan, spoke at the Creative District’s opening and thanked Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman bin Abdulaziz, the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques, and King Salman bin Abdulaziz for their thoughtful consideration of the Commission’s projects.

His Excellency underlined that by integrating with various significant initiatives aimed at transforming the capital into a preeminent global metropolis, the project hopes to become an essential component of Riyadh’s cultural fabric.

Additionally, he noted that the district is a significant step in the ongoing efforts to improve the city’s economic and cultural vitality. He also emphasised the Kingdom’s lofty goals of luring creative energies and creating a diverse community that unites artists from all over the world.

As part of the announcement, the King Abdullah Financial District (KAFD), the location of the project’s current phase, and the Royal Commission for Riyadh City signed an agreement.

Due to its extensive communication network, highly developed infrastructure, and status as a significant centre for contemporary life and business in the area, the centre received the honour of serving as the incubator for the creative district. This makes it a leading destination in sustainability and an example of advanced infrastructure. It also offers a range of creative solutions for smart cities.

Creative Economy and Orange Economy

As a dynamic interplay of human creativity, technology, and knowledge, the creative economy is significant in the transformational phase that Riyadh is going through. Creating and promoting innovative ideas is the foundation of this economy, which encompasses industries like software, media, advertising, design, and the arts that depend on technical and intellectual abilities to produce economic value. The Royal Commission for Riyadh City's Board of Directors has launched the “Creative District” initiative, marking a significant milestone.

This industry, which focuses on turning innovative concepts into commercially viable goods and services, is one of the fastest-growing in the world; therefore, all eyes are on it. Talent and inventiveness are essential to its success.

According to the Creative District program, the orange economy is a concept based on creative assets’ potential and contribution to economic development and progress.

Economic, cultural, and social elements all intersect with this economy, which also interacts with technology, intellectual property, and tourist goals.

Orange is a good colour for artists and policymakers because it is a stimulant for absorbing new ideas and represents the meanings of innovation, leadership, and transformation in many cultures and times.

The economy encompasses talent and creativity-related activities, new technology, culture, communications, robotics, programming, independent audiovisual production, web content, electronic game design, artificial intelligence, computers, software, cybersecurity, and the metaverse, as well as content creation for media like movies, television, radio, and mobile phones.

Creative Economy and Vision 2030

Since the Kingdom wants to encourage the creative and cultural industries to diversify its economy and advance sustainable development, the creative economy is a crucial component of Vision 2030. The Kingdom’s commitment to achieving this goal and creating an environment that fosters creativity and innovation, laying the groundwork for a successful and opportunity-rich future, appears in the programs and projects that have already begun and will continue to live.
