Mayor of London: UAE shares UK’s ambition to face climate challenges

Alderman William Russell, Lord Mayor of London, said that the UAE shares the UK’s ambitions of creating a future that faces climate challenges.

Russell said, in his speech at the Abu Dhabi Sustainable Finance Forum, ‘It has been our pleasure to hear about the UAE’s contribution last month on the national level to the United Nations, in which your plans to reduce greenhouse gas emissions were announced within the 2050 UAE National Energy Strategy framework.’

He continued,  ‘I realize that the epidemic has affected our societies and caused a change, so we have to be keen on sustainability and green projects while responding to these changes.’

Russell explained that the focus on environmental, social and institutional governance standards has been renewed as a result of the Coronavirus spread, where sustainable investments have demonstrated their resilience during this unstable economic period, and the validity and robustness of governance standards and their effectiveness have been verified through their ability to manage risks.
