Basmah’s Biography
Basmah was born in Riyadh in 1964. She is the daughter of King Saud bin Abdulaziz Al Saud, the founder of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.
She grew up in a rich cultural and social environment, as her father was one of the most important political figures in the Kingdom.
Basmah was close to her father and learned much about leadership and responsibility from him. She was also close to her mother, who significantly influenced her life.
She received her primary and secondary education in schools in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, and then she joined the American University of Beirut, where she studied social sciences.
After graduating from university, Basmah travelled to the United States, where she studied television production at New York University, and obtained a master’s degree in media in 1989. She is among the first Saudi women to receive a university education abroad.
Basmah Bint Saud Al Saud’s Achievements
- Basmah founded “Roya” Media Production Company in 1991, a leading television and film production company.
- She established the Basmah bint Saud Al Saud Charitable Foundation in 2000. It is an organisation that supports social and humanitarian projects in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.
- Basmah was Chairwoman of the Board of Directors of Al Jazeera Holding Company between 2002 and 2006.
- She participated in establishing the “Saudi Women’s Forum” in 2007, which is a forum that aims to enhance the role of Saudi women in society.
Challenges and Difficulties
Basmah faced many challenges and difficulties in her career, including the social and cultural challenges facing Saudi women in business. However, Basma was able to overcome these challenges and prove herself as a successful business leader.
Furthermore, she contributed to improving Saudi society, providing job opportunities for women, and supporting social and humanitarian projects in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.
