At the Montpellier-based International Mediterranean Film Festival, two MAD films take home prestigious awards.
At the most recent Cinémed Mediterranean Film Festival, MAD Shorts VIBRATIONS FROM GAZA and AFTER THE SUN caused a stir in the French town of Montpellier after taking home two prizes and a special mention, respectively.
Moreover, by narrating two different stories from the Arab world, directors Rehab Nazzal and Rayane Mcirdi have demonstrated their remarkable talent.
In addition, after winning the Best Short Film Award at the just-concluded BFI London Film Festival, Rayane Mcirdi’s VIBRATIONS FROM Gaza. The first of the two walked home with both the La Gazette Audience Award and the Ville de Montpellier Young Audience Award at Cinemed. The film screened at Cinemed’s Corum-Pasteur Room and concluded with a Q&A.
Notably, a look into the life of deaf youngsters in the occupied and besieged Gaza Strip is provided by the film. It portrays the bombs, damage, and drone buzz above in dramatic detail via the words of children who have grown up under the constant siege and Israeli attack.
Besides, the second, AFTER THE SUN, received a Special Mention at the 77th Cannes Film Festival, where it made a significant international debut.
Interestingly, a little girl sets off on her first summer adventure without her married sister in this beautiful short film, Rayane Mcirdi wrote and directed this lovely film, which takes place in the 1980s. While travelling to Algeria with her family on a sentimental road trip from France, she explores a country full of treasured memories just waiting to be found in an attempt to rekindle her ties to her roots.
